Hi. 안녕 ¡Hola!

We are explorers, wanderers, travelers, nomads. We strive to project the authenticity of places we visit through honest words and visuals. Enjoy!

Family UK Road Trip: Isle of Skye, Scotland

Family UK Road Trip: Isle of Skye, Scotland

After a night in Inverness and the Highlands during our two week family road trip in the United Kingdom, we drove southwards, crossing into Isle of Skye. We were on track to arrive in Portree before dinner… until we hit one of the island’s infamous potholes and blew a tire! We waited four hours for a tow truck to finish up with another unfortunate client, then trudge its way to our location. Welcome to Isle of Skye!

We passed the time playing cards (game of 7’s), eating snacks, and watching the beautiful sunset. C and I were so thankful that my mom always has cards and his sisters always pack snacks! Had it been just the two of us, we would have been very bored and hungry LOL! #gratitude

In Isle of Skye, we based ourselves in the cute harbor town of Portree, from which we did driving excursions to various points of interest. Every day started with a sunrise stroll to the port area, though, ‘cause who could resist these views??

See the mountain in the background below? That’s Old Man of Storr, inviting us to come out and hike the island’s only real “peak”.

So we did! The path is well-groomed, all the way to the top, with fantastic views of the sea.

We also visited the Fairy Glen. The name itself was too cute to resist. There was a gentle walking path that meandered through the unique topology of the park. While I personally enjoyed the various stone circles we encountered along the trail, apparently, they are made by tourists and are a source of consternation to the locals. I thought they added a “Druid-ish Celtic” feeling to the place… * shrug *

Road Trippin’ Scenes Around Isle of Skye

On our last day of exploring Isle of Skye, we had a mood-busting moment at Skye Silks near Dunvegan that shall simply be referred to as “the altercation”. A shocking encounter with the shop owner’s husband — an insurance-scam conman and bully — left us all a bit battered(!!), baffled, bewildered, and burning with outrage! AVOID SKYE SILKS! Thankfully, the Oyster Shed and Talisker Distillery were just a short drive away. A whiskey tasting and some excellent fish and chips were the perfect post-altercation salve!

After leaving Isle of Skye, it was time to bid adieu to our Korean family at the airport.

After another round of cards, a final toast, and hugs, they flew back to Korea and we headed onward to Glasgow by train with my mom to wrap up our two week family road trip in the United Kingdom
