Hike Suraksan in the Nowon District of Seoul

Hike Suraksan in the Nowon District of Seoul

The hike to the summit of Suraksan is fun, with some crazy steep slopes and interesting rock formations. Expect hand-over-hand cables at the top, lots of stair climbs, and sweeping views of Bukhansan, Dobongsan, and the Seoul urban landscape.

As with every South Korean National Park, Suraksan offers many climbing routes. The easiest route follows the Seoul Dulle Gil, a 150 kilometer route that circumnavigates the city and the base of many key mountains dotting Seoul’s landscape. But to get the heart pumping, choose one of the summit routes. The max elevation point of Surkasan is just over 2000 feet (630 meters), making it the 3rd highest hiking peak in Seoul. Surak Mountain has three waterfalls and several temples — trail maps indicate various points of interest to help you choose a scenic route.
